Lauren Wheeler LEED AP is the principal of Natural Resources Design, Inc. She has more than 20 years experience in landscape design and installation. She has designed award-winning small urban gardens to large retirement communities. Lauren loves to work with individuals and communities to unite the region’s ecosystems with their environment.
Mary Sper Mary’s focus is to design ecological landscapes, whether residential or commercial projects, re-establishing natural systems is her primary goal. All of her projects involve developing attractive and cost-effective stormwater management strategies. After a 22-year career in the U.S. Navy, she applied her love of nature, rocks and art to earning a Master of Professional Studies in Sustainable Landscapes from The George Washington University. She especially enjoys capitalizing on the interactions between native plant communities, soils, microclimates, and edible and companion plantings to create sustainable, experiential and multi-functional designs that evoke a sense of place and provide beneficial habitat for wildlife and humans alike. She has a particular talent in creating natural play spaces where children can learn about the environment. She regularly volunteers as a Weed Warrior and community service group leader for Dumbarton Oaks Park Conservancy, conducting invasive plant removal, restoration plantings, and low-impact stormwater mitigation. She was the Landscape Construction Manager and a decathlete for Team Capital DC’s ‘Harvest Home’ entry in the 2013 Solar Decathlon.
